I am Honored to be the Queen’s Harpist for a Day
I feel so honored and blessed to have been asked to play at the Episcopal service, for Queen Liliuokalani. Remembering the Last Queen of Hawaii on the 100th Anniversary of Her Passing, sponsored in part by the Friends of Liliuokalani Gardens, is turning out to be quite a special event.
Last Monday, I was invited to a planning committee meeting for the service. I thought I sip some tea, talk about the harp a bit, and zip out after an hour or so.
Following Protocol
Instead, it turned into 2½ very interesting hours where committee members worked out the integration of Episcopal protocol and Royal Society protocol.
For example, how would they serve communion to several hundred people when half the normal traffic flow has to be blocked off because no one can walk in front of the Royal Society? (Yes, the committee worked it out, and you’ll have to come to find out how they did it).
